THE CELTIC TREE ZODIAC

This page shall debunk the myths surrounding the famous Celtic Tree Zodiac. It is not historically accurate in any way. But I am not here to stop you from having fun with it if you so choose.

The Celtic Tree Zodiac originates in the work of Robert Graves, an English author. Besides being a Celtic scholar, he was also a renowned Classicist (scholar of the ancient Mediterranean). In 1948 he published his famous essay, The White Goddess. In this book he argues that the Ogham letters contained a secret key- the Celtic Tree Calendar.

While it is true that some of the names of Ogham letters translated to tree-related words such as birch, alder, and pine, this all had nothing to do with any sort of Celtic calendar, nor did it have anything to do with astrology.
