In Mesopotamia, you were both the Agrarian Worker and the Ram. The Roman author Manilius cited you as the ram of the Golden Fleece. To the Greeks, you were thrust into the rulership of Mars, lover of Venus; to the Mesopotamians there was Dumuzi, god of shepherds and lover of Venus Inanna. For half of every year, he falls to the underworld and rises again out of his love for the goddess, with Gestinanna in his place instead. Like a god, you fall and you rise.
In Aries, we experience the renewal of the instinctive nature of the soul. Aries makes things happen, and this independence takes the pressure off of others. When an idea pops up, they're the first to say, "Let's go for it!" And quitting has never been in their vocabulary.
Aries is the baby of the zodiac and it is like a young James Dean on a motorcycle: it needs to be on the move and it likes speed. Frankness and refreshing honesty are this sign's trademarks. Some lack stability and evidence an inability for handling responsibility. Even a mature Aries can forget debts, both monetary and metaphorical, in the excitement of the ever-present challenge of the moment. Aries has a wistful facet to its nature blended with the blind zeal of a born crusader. Like diamond, their Mars horns are hard, and tough to crack. They also see bright red frequently. That fire which consumes their spirit can be a flaming torch that lights the way to courage for anyone who recognizes their great idealism.
For Aries is the Cardinal pioneer, always leading onward to an infinite goal. They have an iron faith in the world; unmixed with the alloys of hypocrisy and greed. This is why they seldom amass a fortune, and even if they did, they'd be too busy to stop and count the money. However pressed or poor they are temporarily, they always lend time and resources for others. The ram knows that bread cast on the waters not only feeds his ego and returns again increased, but it encourages happiness, one of the things they enjoy most in life. To them, beautiful dreams and miracles are a dime a dozen. If you run out, an Aries will make you some more.
Burning Love! Aries may not always be willing to lend a sympathetic ear to your problems. This can be painful, especially if you're not used to it. But the reason is beautiful. Aries see their partners as powerful, independent people who can handle themselves in any situation. Aries does not partner with shrinking violets. So it really does not occur to them that you need them. They fully expect you to go handle your problems like the independent, fully-realized badass that you are.
They respect you too much to do otherwise. And think about it. How many of us complain about our partners trying to fix our problems for us? That being said, if you make it explicit to them that you need their support, they will be there lightning-fast. No Aries can resist the chance to be a hero. Ardor is what they have, and they are experts at keeping the spark alive far beyond what anyone would expect.
Aries can make believe from here to tomorrow, but they can't lie worth a damn. What you see is what they are. When adults force a baby to eat mashed peas, the baby reacts in the only manner it knows: causing so much disturbance that people give in just to get peace. They don't need delicate strategy. Determination suffices to allow them to get their way.
This disarming naïveté is also why Aries people are so fearless. The baby fears nothing and no one! Until they get burned. Even then, they'll trustingly try again when they've forgotten the hurt. They remain this way throughout their lifetime; believing with all their heart, getting humbled and standing up again to try once more. Aries will seldom glance around awkwardly. When they do, they're no longer interested. Something else has caught their attenition, and for the moment, you are forgotten. So is what you're saying. Don't be offended! Remember the baby and its toes and fingers.
"The lion shall lie down with the lamb."
Aries has to learn lessons of reconciliation and compromise. The Sun, exalted in Aries, is all about "Me," not "We." From Aries to Leo, we follow the path of a subjective development with the goal of a deep and enduring self-orientation. The 4th house is naturally square to both the 1st house- Aries- and the 7th house- Libra. Libra represents extremes, and in Aries we have the extreme of the ego identifying itself as a separate being, with no connection to any other being. This can cause the ego, through Mars, to impose its will on others.
The Aries-Libra polarity may also be explained as "action" vs "option weighing." Aries needs Libra to see itself.
Scorpio, like Aries, is ruled by Mars: one goes forth to battle while the other retracts. The battlefield of Aries is the world, but Scorpio's is themself. Aries rules beginnings- "Someone's gotta do it, so it might as well be me"- and Scorpio rules death. The psyche renewed in Aries must die within Scorpio in order that it may move on.
